CASITA DE SUENO

a small oasis with all the sunshine

and blue sky you need

Western Scenery

SCOTTSDALE

Scottsdale started as a farming town in 1888 when U.S. Army Chaplain Winfield Scott bought a plot in what would be downtown. Cattle ranching also had its place here. However, after the depression, the city drew artists and architects, including Frank Lloyd Wright. In the early 50s, with a population of around 2,000 people, Scottsdale called itself the "West's Most Western Town." The 50s saw the introduction of industry and the first spring training with the Baltimore Orioles. By the late 60s, the population had grown to 68,000 and has continued to expand. With a plenitude of resorts, golf courses, spring training, great restaurants, and constant sunshine, it remains a popular tourist destination.

Our home was designed by the well known sculptor, Bill Tull. Despite the fact that adobe homes have been built in this area for centuries, for many decades more recently, they were not allowed to be built. They did not meet modern building codes. Bill Tull felt this was absurd and lamented the loss of such a beautiful form of architecture. He worked with architects and engineers to develop a method that would bring the craft up to code. While he never earned an architecture degree, Mr. Tull is responsible for the design of hundreds of homes in the southwestern United States. Our home was built in 1982 and was designed for a female artist.

PROPERTY AMENITIES

What You Need

This property is well equipped with amenities that can hopefully cover your every want and need. Take a look below to learn more about everything that’s included in our special home for guests.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Our little casita has much of what you need to make your stay comfortable. The main room offers a dining table that seats four. There is a twin sleeper sofa with a foam comfort mattress that easily sleeps one adult or two children. Our television has access to Netflix and other streaming services.

The kitchen has Britta refrigerated filtered water system. For your convenience there is a coffee pot, coffee grinder, toaster, smoothie maker, full cookware set, and plenty of kitchen tools and dishes.

Two full sized closets and luggage rack will hold your suitcases and extra things. The bathroom has a walk in shower, plenty of towels, washcloths, soap, a hair dryer, and shampoo and conditioner.

The bedroom has a king sized bed, desk and fire place. While we ask that you do not use the fireplaces, we encourage you to light the candelabra inside the fireplace. Extra bedding, bedding for the sleeper sofa, extra pillows, and beach towels can be found in the bedroom closet.

Feel free to open up the windows and let the fresh air inside. You may have to hop on the desk to reach the top latches of the bedroom window. Go for it. You may not want to sleep with the main room windows open during the night. We saw a mountain lion roaming around the pool area very early one morning. We have also had two separate bobcat visits in the middle of the afternoon.

THE OUTDOORS

The lounge chairs might be tucked away, please feel free to place them out to help you enjoy the sun and pool. Towels for outdoor use can be found in the bedroom closet.

We keep the umbrellas closed while we are away but once you arrive, open them all up. You will appreciate the space in the shade.

Feel free to light a fire in the evening. There is a wood storage area in the walkway next to the Green Egg and the main house.

Be sure to use the hot tub. Please do a rinse off in the shower before entering (and it's wise to do one when you get out otherwise your skin will hate you). We may have the temperature turned down to conserve energy but turn it up while you're visiting but please turn it back down before you go. Outdoor towels are in the bedroom closet.

The fruit trees on the other side of the pool wall are ours. Help yourself!

The neighborhood is quiet and nice for walking although there are no street lights so if walking in the evening, be sure to wear bright clothing. There are many hiking trails in the area. The closest one is Pinnacle Peak trail, about a 10 minute drive. The hike is 3.5 miles and moderate in difficulty. It offers sweeping views of the area. Pinnacle Peak Trail
